On 13 October, ENHANCE partner Maria da Conceição Colaço presented the Portuguese case study on insurance and forest fire resilience at the “X Conference: International Day of Natural Disaster Reduction”, held in Amadora, Portugal. The event was organised on the occasion of the United Nations’ International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction.
The conference focused on “The role of the private sector in reducing the risk of disaster", a theme launched by the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction. The papers presented at the conference portrayed best practices in risk reduction implemented by the private sector. In addition, some concrete examples of real cases were presented. The importance of prevention, rescue, awareness, safety as well as cohesion between public and private actors in improving the resilience of societies to natural disasters were highlighted.

Maria da Conceição Colaço will also speak about the theme “Social resilience to forest fires in Portugal” at the Iberian Technical Seminar on Forest Fires (FIRECAMP 2015), in Monção, Portugal, on 15-16 October.
