ENHANCE’s main goal is to develop and analyse news ways to improve society’s resilience to the impact of natural disasters through 10 specific case studies. According to the project, society’s resilience to natural disasters could be better coordinated via new multi-sector partnerships (MSPs). In this regards, MSPs aim at reducing or redistributing risk whilst increasing resilience.
ENHANCE partners understand MSPs as_ voluntary but enforceable commitments between partners from different sectors (public authorities, private services/enterprise and civil society), which can be temporary or long lasting. They are founded on sharing the same goal in order to gain mutual benefit, reduce risk and increase resilience_ (Rhodes, 1997).
ENHANCE highlights that new MSPs are needed; since existing partnerships are often not effective in managing risk from natural hazards. With its recommendations, ENHANCE is driving MSPs and more specially private, public and civil society actors toward better preparation in answering catastrophic impacts. With ENHANCE, the actors work together for society’s resilience.
